A native of Los Angeles, Carlos Velasco began his mental health career in 2008 at Harbor Regional Center. It was there that his passion and commitment for working with children originated as he had the opportunity to not only work with families in helping them acquire and maintain services and support but also in developing individualized program plans. Carlos joined The Help Group in 2014 as a Wraparound Facilitator and has since received several promotions as the program continues its structured growth. Carlos’ client-focused approach and strong organizational leadership led him to become Wraparound Lead Facilitator in 2015, Wraparound Program Supervisor in 2017, Wraparound Program Coordinator in 2018, and in less than one year, was promoted to Wraparound Program Director. In 2020, he was promoted to Director of Intensive Family Services. Also in 2018, Carlos completed the licensing requirements to become a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). Carlos is fluent in Spanish.
Carlos also transfers his passion for learning and leadership to the field of higher education. In 2014, Carlos became an adjunct professor at a Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accredited university. Over the years, Carlos has taught a consistent rotation of courses in the subject areas of psychology, critical thinking, and interpersonal effectiveness. As a professor, Carlos has been recognized for his ability to not only exceed university standards but to also provide student mentorship.
Carlos received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from California State University Los Angeles in 2005, a Master of Science degree in Psychology degree from Capella University in 2012 and is currently in the dissertation stage of a terminal degree, Doctor of Clinical Psychology, from California Southern University.
Carlos’ philanthropic efforts can be seem throughout the city of Los Angeles. He joined the Boy Scouts in 2014 as an Assistant Scout Master and has provided mentorship to many youth. On several occasions during Eagle Scout ceremonies, Carlos has been honored with the identification of being an adult mentor. In 2016, Carlos received the highest honor a local district can bestow upon a volunteer leader for scouting which was the District Award of Merit Award for Exceptional Service.
